Biography

Elsie Torres is the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools. Prior to this role, Elsie served as a grade one classroom teacher, Elementary Assistant Principal, Elementary School Principal, and Central Office Supervisor of Bilingual Education and ESOL Programs where she also served as the district McKinney Vento Liaison, all within the Meriden Public Schools. In 2011, she was named the William Cieslukowski Outstanding First-Year Principal by the Connecticut Association of Schools. During her tenure as principal Elsie oversaw a comprehensive school turnaround effort including the implementation of an extended school day for all students.
She earned an Associate of Science degree in Human Services from Middlesex Community College and went on to complete her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services at Springfield College.  Following this, Elsie attended Cambridge College where she earned her Master of Education degree and began her career as a teacher.  Ms. Torres went on to earn a sixth-year degree in educational leadership from Southern Connecticut State University. Most recently, Elsie completed the Executive Leadership Program at the University of Connecticut, obtaining the Superintendent certification.
Aside from her career in education, Elsie is an avid animal lover and advocate. Her greatest joy and sense of gratitude are her 21-year-old daughter, her nieces, and her baby great-niece.
